Joined Gotelee in 1987 after training in Sussex
I help clients who are on the receiving end of the power of the state - whether it be the police, a government department or agency or a local authority.
I represent clients who are arrested or who attend voluntarily for interview. I advise clients on criminal liability following charge or summons and I represent clients at court.
My cases cover all aspects of criminal law but I have a particular expertise in all forms of regulatory enforcement including health & safety, animal welfare, planning, fire safety, highways and statutory nuisance, trading standards, confiscation, cash seizure, road traffic and licensing.
I achieve the best outcomes that can be achieved. Sometimes that can be measured in an acquittal and sometimes in the mitigation of a sentence. My clients are highly delighted with the service they receive and the quality of advice and representation provided and I know that because they tell me so.
Clients tell me that I understand their cases and I understand them. I deal with cases perceptively and sensitively but I am also clear and forthright in my advice. I do not pull my punches. I am thorough in my approach and I have excellent professional relationships with fellow professionals. I am both well known and well respected in the criminal justice system regionally and through the many contacts that I have nationally.
I am an accredited criminal law practitioner and higher rights court advocate and I am qualified in health and safety law from the UEA. I am also the firm’s quality procedures partner and the Money Laundering Reporting Officer. Away from the firm, I am a Committee member of the Criminal Law Solicitors Association and I represent the Law Society on court committees. I am also a director of Ipswich CAB.
When I am not at Gotelee I play hockey and I play the trombone in the Ipswich Hospital Band.
