Data Protection and Privacy

Data Protection and Freedom of Information

You need to comply with data protection laws if your organisation has employees, customer lists, contact lists or collects, stores, uses, shares or transfers information which relates to identifiable living people.  If you do not comply with data protection laws, you could be fined, prevented from using the information you have collected or even commit a crime.

If your organisation deals with public bodies such as local authorities and councils you need to understand the Freedom of Information Act 2000.  If you tender for work, are you sure that commercially sensitive or confidential parts of that tender will not be disclosed to a person making a freedom of information request?
