Mental Health Law

Mental Health Law is an area where the need for specialist advice is not confined to the elderly or those suffering from mental illness.  Our Mental Health Team can provide clear, concise and experienced advice for those who are suffering mental health problems and need representation, or for Authorities, carers or relatives of those affected.

We can offer advice about detention and treatment under the Mental Health Act including assisting with NHS complaints. We represent patients referred automatically to the Mental Health Tribunal and who have appealed. We also represent relatives.

Our Mental Health Team includes experienced advocates able to represent clients at Tribunals and Appeals and we are willing to visit clients who are unfortunately detained under Section or at their own home.

Tanya Thomas has been a member of the Mental Health Tribunal Panel since 1993 and when not representing clients on one side of the desk regularly sits as a Tribunal Judge.   Her experience and compassion has earnt her a strong reputation as a leader in this field

The Mental Health Team are also able to advise and act for clients who have dealings with the Court of Protection.   We have recently acted for and on behalf of both vulnerable adults and children at Court of Protection hearings and we assist both clients and their families with helping manage their affairs.   We regularly receive referrals from other Solicitors and Local Authorities to represent clients and are experienced in this area.
