Data Protection and Freedom of Information

You need to comply with data protection laws if your organisation has employees, customer lists, contact lists or collects, stores, uses, shares or transfers information which relates to identifiable living people.  If you do not comply with data protection laws, you could be fined, prevented from using the information you have collected or even commit a crime.

If your organisation deals with public bodies such as local authorities and councils you need to understand the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

How can we help?

We advise on all aspects of data protection and freedom of information, including:

  • Right to access personal data under the Data Protection Act 1998
  • Right to access information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
  • When information does not have to be disclosed under those Acts
  • Freedom of Information Act for businesses dealing with a public bodies
