The consequences of sexual abuse can be devastating and lifelong – however, the courts are there to ensure that victims are properly compensated.
For many, dealing with the emotional scars caused by abuse can be so difficult that any thought of seeking damages is instantly dismissed.
But Gotelee Solicitors, which has offices in Ipswich, Felixstowe and Hadleigh, has a specialist team of lawyers who are able to navigate victims through the process of claiming the compensation they are due.
Those who have been affected by sexual abuse can seek comfort in recent examples of the courts awarding claimants damages.
In one national case, an infatuated young woman who was cynically groomed and molested by a school deputy headmaster was awarded almost £60,000 in damages.
After being urged to do so by her father, the woman contacted solicitors and issued proceedings against the school’s owners, who accepted indirect responsibility for the teacher’s conduct.
The court heard how the effect of the abuse had been so severe the victim has attempted suicide and struggled to form normal relationships or forge a successful working life. The award of £59,356 included £35,000 for her pain, suffering and loss of amenity.
Gotelee Solicitors are partnered with Ipswich charity Survivors in Transition to help those who wish to pursue a legal claim for compensation.
