Moving house can be stressful at the best of times but the current uncertainty regarding conveyancing transactions is just adding to that. The Government has now given guidance.
At Gotelee we are here to help you with your questions arising from the guidance. In essence where you have not yet exchanged contracts to move house our advice is to delay exchange of contracts so that you are not committed to move on a specific date. Removal companies may not be able to move you, mortgage companies may not be able to pay funds in time and other parties in the chain may be forced to self-isolate and not leave their homes. All of this could delay completion of the move anyway.
There may be exceptions, for example where a first time buyer is buying an empty property but even then there may be a problem arranging removals.
Where you have exchanged contracts and have a fixed completion date to move the government advice is to seek to agree a postponement of the moving date with the rest of the chain. For the practical reasons set out above there may be difficulties slowing down or preventing the actual move anyway.
If you have any concerns we are here to help you. Contact your usual contact at Gotelee or speak to a member of our conveyancing team below either by telephone or email.
