Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, a mental health trust which has already been criticised for planned job and bed cuts over the next 2 years, may have to reduce workforce numbers further still over the next five years. A lack of additional funding and a year on year increase in mental health referrals mean that further savings of £44m may need to be made by 2019.
Organisational change is inevitably an extremely stressful time, for service users and staff alike.
For staff, the spectre of further compulsory redundancies and how this may impact on them and their families cannot be underestimated. For those who remain, increased levels of work combined with a reduced workforce often necessitate significant changes to their terms and conditions, both in terms of pay and also increases in their duties. The law requires organisations to go through fair and reasonable consultation processes before making any final decisions, which the Trust have confirmed they will do.
