Gotelee Solicitors has devised a unique way to support young, local musicians and improve the experience when clients contact the firm. Whilst the Gotelee team strive to meet quick response times, there are often occasions in every organisation when telephone callers need to wait ‘on hold’.
“We decided that anyone calling Gotelee should experience some home grown, local talent rather than beeps, sales patter or lift music.” commented Charles Rowett, CEO.
“We are delighted that Sophie Catherall, the daughter of one of our partners, student at Northgate Sixth Form in Ipswich and member of the National Youth Orchestra, agreed to record two fabulous pieces for the oboe – for use, not only with our telephone system but other media projects also. Accompanied by Andrew Leach, former director of music at Ipswich School, Sophie’s performance of “Oboe Sonate – andantino”, by Saint-Saëns, is an absolute delight.”
Sophie is in her second year of playing oboe with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and is one of only two Suffolk students to have passed the audition process to perform with NYO this year.
The National Youth Orchestra relies on donations from businesses and individuals not only for its impressive season of performances, but most importantly to fund its Inspire and Play the School programmes, which are free of charge to participants and seek to inspire the next generation of performers, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds who may not have the opportunities to develop their talents.
With the recent publication of the Arts Council report which emphasised just how important the contribution of the arts and culture industry is to the economy and with public funding of the arts under increasing pressure, it’s never been more important for support to come from elsewhere. At the start of this year’s NYO season, all of the musicians were given the task of raising funds to support the orchestra. Gotelee Solicitors are pleased to have donated £100 to Sophie’s fundraising.
“We really hope callers will enjoy hearing Sophie’s performance. Our aim is to introduce more local talent to our clients in this innovative way in the future.”
Sophie will be performing with the NYO at the BBC Proms at the end of July. The concert is broadcast in full on BBC Four.
