For the second year Gotelee Solicitors proudly sponsor the Carer and Cared For Programme at Snape Maltings, which forms part of the organisation’s Learning and Inclusion work.
The role of the arts in improving the lives of those with illness and disability, and of their carers, is being increasingly discussed. Snape’s ground-breaking work combines sustained activity in residential care settings with monthly sessions at Snape Maltings including wonderful biannual Tea Dances.
The tea dances cater for people from across the community with 30% of tickets offered at reduced cost to those directly affected by Dementia in care homes, community groups and day centres. The events encourage people to come together through an afternoon of live big band music and afternoon tea. “There is never a shortage of Gotelee team members to join the tea dances”, comments Charles Rowett. “There is an overwhelmingly positive atmosphere at the events and everyone is having a great time, whether dancing, watching or tapping along to favourite tunes.”
Participate is a monthly music-making workshop hosted on the Snape Maltings campus, which brings together people with complex needs in a supportive and friendly environment. Born out of Snape Maltings’ Carer and Cared-For initiative, Participate is suitable for all ages and abilities and caters to those most at need – providing support and networking pathways for carers, and creative activity for vulnerable members of the community.
The success of the programme over the last three years has seen Snape Maltings hone and develop its approach to “boxless” community engagement, where cross-generational and cross-condition participants learn, support, and engage together.
“We are delighted to continue to support Snape with this initiative which is so valuable to the community and a great success. As this short video clip clearly demonstrates, there are smiles all round – something that law firms often struggle to achieve!”
