Having qualified in 2001 I have built up many years of experience in matrimonial and family law. Due to the many issues that can arise from the breakdown of a relationship or marriage, my knowledge is extensive as is my experience in dealing with clients from a diversity of backgrounds and cultures.
As a Partner at Gotelee’s, I believe that I have sound experience and knowledge and the ability to provide clients with appropriate legal, practical, sensible and pragmatic advice at all times.
During the course of my work, I advise on the whole spectrum of financial settlements including the average to high net worth settlements within divorce proceedings. I advise clients through the Court process and represent them myself at most Court hearings. I also recommend that clients try alternative approaches to resolving disputes, by using roundtable meetings which can be more time and cost effective for all involved.
In June 2015 I completed by Foundation Mediation Training and am working towards formal Accreditation. I believe the skills that I have learned through Mediation help me assist my client’s at looking at matters from a different perspective rather than just the court route. I am happy to assist clients as a Mediator or a Solicitor to resolve any difficulties that they have as a result of a relationship or marriage breakdown.
In relation to non married couples who have separated or intend to, I advise them on property issues and matters involving children. I assist in being able to reach a positive outcome for the parents but also for the children who are often at the centre of the dispute. I have also dealt with High Court cases involving children with special medical needs and whether they should or should not be subject to medical treatment. I have also extensively advised parents and family members on contact, residence, education and removing children from England to emigrate abroad.
Recently I have undertaken an interesting and developing area of the law, namely Dissolution of Civil Partnerships. I am able to advise as to the process and the resolution of the financial settlement, as well as preparing Pre-Civil Partnership Agreements to safeguard assets in the event of a partnership breakdown.
Dealing with the breakdown of a personal relationship can be a very worrying and emotional time for people. I hope that my friendly, supportive and pragmatic approach is one that clients call on when going through a divorce or relationship breakdown. I am understanding but I give down to earth, robust and appropriate advice. I am also a member of Resolution.
I assist clients in safeguarding their own interests before entering into a marriage or living with their partner. I have prepared Pre-Nuptial Agreements and Cohabitation Agreements. This can save considerable time and money for parties in planning what would happen in the event of the marriage/relationship breakdown. Declarations of Trust can also be useful in situations where couples are buying a property in their joint names perhaps where there is an unequal contribution towards the purchase price. Again it can save time and money in the future should there be a dispute that arises between a couple. Post-Nuptial Agreements can also be prepared after parties have married in order to safeguard their assets in the event that the marriage may break down at some point in the future.
I have been mentioned on a number of occasions in The Legal 500 which I believe is an acknowledgement of the good service that I provide to my clients.
We are pleased that the Gotelee Family Team continue to rank highly in the Legal 500. This shows that we at Gotelee’s are continually committed to providing a service that our Client’s can rely on and trust and are always looking at making improvements that will benefit our Client’s.
My main passion is travelling which I fit in when I am not at work. I have travelled extensively across Europe, and the USA and have been to Cuba, Dubai and most recently to Vietnam, which was my first taste of Asia and inspired me to plan a trip to Malaysia during the summer of 2018. I hope that my travels will take me even further around the world. When not on holiday, I have climbed Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, and survived! I am also an avid film fan and having a cinema pass means that I go to see a lot of films, some good and some bad. I also love spending a weekend in London and going to see shows in the West End and doing the “touristy” sightseeing things that London has to offer. I am a keen amateur home baker and have on many occasion provided my colleagues and family with my cakes and desserts. They have always gone down a treat so I shall continue baking!
