Wages Issues – individuals

Wages Issues – individuals

  • Has your employer failed to pay you the correct amount of salary?
  • Have your wages been paid late or not at all?
  • Has a deduction been made from your wages without your agreement?
  • Do you have another dispute with your employer about your wages?

If the answer to any of the above is yes, you should take advice from Gotelee Solicitors’ team of specialist employment Solicitors in Ipswich, Suffolk.

National Minimum Wage

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) applies to all workers over compulsory school leaving age.  The NMW rates differ depending on the age of the worker and whether or not they are in training.  If you have not received NMW, we can help you to bring a claim to recover the outstanding sums that should have been paid.

Deductions from wages

Your employer can only make a deduction from your pay in very limited circumstances if:

  • The law requires it to be deducted (for example, PAYE deductions for income tax);
  • You have expressly authorised the deduction; or
  • Your employment contract states that this type of deduction can be made and you have signed the contract; or
  • You have signed a separate agreement which allows for the deduction to be made.

Your pay slips must highlight the amount and purpose of any deductions from your pay.  If you believe that a deduction has been improperly made from your pay, contact Gotelee’s employment solicitors in Ipswich, Suffolk. We will tell you what your options are and how to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
