Immediate steps following the death of a friend or relative

Help what do I do?   Firstly, do not panic.   Secondly, take a deep breath and read on, this guide takes you through the next steps

  • Contact the Register Office to register the death – details to take with you
    • Deceased’s full name and any previous names
    • Date and place of birth
    • Deceased’s marital status and details of spouse or civil partner
    • Deceased’s usual address
    • National Insurance number
    • Medical Certificate from the Hospital, GP or Coroner
  • Begin Funeral Arrangements
  • Find the Will
  • Contact Friends and Employer
  • Contact Pension Service or Benefits agency
